Civic works

Over the course of two semesters, The Mill students worked with Civic Works to research the best way recognize the history behind the Clifton Mansion and acknowledge the enslaved people that worked there. The Fall 2023 students, with research help from Dr. Glenn Johnston's Special Topics in History course, determined that an event celebrating Maryland Emancipation Day would be the most effective strategy, given that there is currently no Emancipation Day celebration in Baltimore County.

Students in the Spring 2024 spent the semester creating a visual brand for the event, Freedom Fest: A Maryland Emancipation day Celebration. They also researched and planned details for the First Annual Freedom Fest, to take place on November 1st-2nd, 2024.
